Mambazham Kavitha Lyrics in Malayalam, English & Translation

When the first mango fell from the courtyard tree,
Hot tears flowed from the mother’s eyes.
Months before, after a long season of waiting,
The tender mango blossoms had begun to bloom.
Like a little boy lighting a festive lamp,
Her precious child ran forward in delight,
Plucked a cluster of blossoms and brought them near.
The mother scolded him:
“O mischievous little one,
You have plucked away the flowers that had just bloomed!”
“Shouldn’t one wait for the mangoes to ripen and fall?
Why strike down the flower clusters before their time?”
The child’s expression changed,
His lotus-like face withered.
His innocent eyes became pools of tears.
“I won’t come to gather mangoes anymore,”
he said.
“I won’t come to gather mangoes anymore.”
And he threw the flower cluster onto the bare earth.
O little ones who cannot yet weave words together,
Are you not seers with far-reaching vision?
Before the emerald buds of the mango tree
Could turn into fragrant golden fruit
Under the blazing summer sun,
Without waiting for the mangoes to fall,
The mother’s sweet little cuckoo
Left its nest
And flew to heaven.
May he live among the celestial beings,
Detached from earthly concerns,
Immersed in divine play.
When the first mango fell from the courtyard tree,
Hot tears flowed from the mother’s eyes.
The golden fruit that had fallen
As if to offer nectar to her son
Lay unwanted in the courtyard.
Meanwhile, the children from neighboring houses
Built little playhouses beneath the tree
With great excitement.
“Dear brother, give us a mango!”
They sang and called out eagerly.
They ran to gather the fallen sweet fruits,
Amid joyful noise and celebration.
For them,
It was a grand festival of spring.
But for her,
Blinded by tears,
It was a dark season of endless rain.
For them,
It was a festival of spring.
But for her,
Blinded by grief,
It was a season of sorrow and storms.
Standing silently for a moment,
She picked up that fruit,
A fruit that seemed like the very embodiment
Of her own suffering.
She buried it
In the soil that covered
The beloved body of her little child.
Softly she said:
“This mango came
For my little one’s hands to hold,
For my little one’s mouth to taste.
Not knowing the truth,
You left in disappointment.
My child,
Only if you taste this fruit
Will your mother find peace.”
Even when you sulk and go away,
Do you not return shyly
When I call you again?
Come, my little Krishna,
Whom these eyes can no longer see.
Even if only in spirit,
Accept this offering from your mother.
Then, like a cool breeze from a young sapling,
The soul of her beloved child
Came near
And embraced his mother.
